Iris Kettner (D) “I wonder what sculpture can bring about nowadays, researching the form of the human figuration according to contemporary expressive possibilities. A big part of my work is a group of figurative sculptures. More or less life-sized sculptures, made out of stuffed textiles and clothes, very chunky and simply realized. The gesture of the figures has ambivalent lectures – this ambiguity creates a projection surface for the inner world of the viewer. Concurrently to my sculptural works I also do drawing and painting, which I use to keep first thoughts and ideas on a surface. They are the ideal media to achieve unprejudiced and immediate ideas for my works. Most of the drawings are already a work in themselves, completely independent of my three-dimensional work.” Freely translated. Orginal text by Iris Kettner, 2009
