Marc Fromm (D) - Krippe

Marc Fromm’s work approaches themes of the everyday life, while using symbols and icons of our traditional culture. His works stands out by the exaggeration of our reality. This character consists not only of materiality and technique, but also through a hale of irony. Staged on a monumental scenery, the piece “Krippe” portraits a young family next to an Asiatic snack bar. The actors: a man leaning over a table, eating chips and actually quite disinterested on what is happening. Opposite to him, a young woman, glazing into the empty horizon, pushes a buggy with her left hand, while she is straining at the leash of a dog. “Krippe” (crib) is the name the artist gave to this sculpturesque group. It represents the Holy Family. The theme is the most popular one in the fine arts, with uncountable variations and interpretations. The scenario created by Marc Fromm though does not immediately create an association to the iconographic tradition of the Holy Family. Even more does this scenario remind us about a situation “around the corner”, with an embarrassing touch of actuality. But it is exactly in this point where the parallels to the story come out to light, the same parallels that question the reality and the processes of consciousness. “Krippe” is a contemporary, critical interpretation of this theme, presented with a love for details in a very ambitious way with the perfect skills of a craftsman.
